Recent Funny Kid Stuff

Kid Catastrophe says to me today, "I want eat an apple, and watch Snow White (except she can't say the "s" so it's "no white"). I laughed since Snow White eats and poison apple in the movie and falls into a coma!

Danger Boy picked up a choice phrase at school (I guess). He said "Oh my G--" in the car the other day. I said "Don't say that! That makes Heavenly Father very angry when you say that!" I explained to him, the best I could why it was bad and he could say "omigosh" if he wanted but not "God". A few minutes later DB asks, "Is Heavenly Father still mad at me?" in this little sad voice.

I of course told him that HF was not mad as long as he did not do it again. It was so sweet!

Pumpkin Farm!!!

Danger Boy and I had a great time at the pumpkin farm for the third year in a row! Twice with his preschool, and now with his Kindergarten class. Here's a pic of Mrs. Norris (NOT the cat from Harry Potter) trying to get the class together for a group photo. She's so patient!

The corn box was a big hit!

It was so cold! 40 degrees with wind kind of cold, so we got hot chocolate and snuggled on the hay ride to stay warm.
There's a tower of hay with a slide and other "playground" type stuff in one area, so DB had fun over there too.
This calf was so gentle you could pet it and it licked his hand too. What a sweetie!

Here's and "action" shot of an aggressive goat knocking the goat food out of DB's hand. Maybe I should have asked for another cone for Vance? Ah, hindsight.
We were only able to stay for 2 hours because of the cold, but what fun!

Danger Boy Gets Sick

Danger Boy got sick on Friday and ran a fever that got up to 102.6 at one point. He's never gotten a fever that high. Scary stuff for Tired Mom! Everywhere he slept, our Super Cat Nutmeg would follow and lay on him. Even before I knew he was sick on Thursday night, I found Nutmeg in Vance's room laying next to him. Do cats sense sickness?

Here's some pics of strange places Nutmeg likes to hang out around the house.

Vance's desk in the backroom (among other less animated animals)

Kid Catastrophe made a game of it by piling the stuffed animals on top of him. What a tolerant cat!

Your Thing

Danger Boy and Kid Catastrophe were watching Lady & The Tramp in the living room while Tired Mom was on the computer. DB says to me, "Mom, you left your THING on my spot over here!" I turn my head to see him waving my bra over his head. I had to giggle a little at the image.

I debated whether to tell him the real name for it, but decided my 5 year old little boy did not need to know the real word for bra yet. He can call it "thing" for now ;)

Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies
1 stick butter
1 cup dark brown sugar (I use Splenda brown sugar blend)
1/2 cup white sugar (I just use regular Splenda)
1 cup pureed fresh or canned pumpkin (I think fresh pumpkin tastes better, see below for roasting instructions for sugar pumpkins)
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup white flour (I use a whole grain flour called Teff flour)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour (again I use more Teff flour)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg (I skip this)
3 cups rolled oats

Heat oven to 350. Beat together butter and sugars. Add pumpkin, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until blended. Mix in combined flours, baking soda, and spices. Stir in oats. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheet or baking stone. Bake 10-14 minutes (depending on how big you want them). I also put them in mini muffin pans for a fun shaped cookie muffin.

Roasting Sugar Pumpkins
Buy a sugar pumpkin (little pumpkins, sometimes with little black spots on them)
Cut it in half and scoop out the seeds
Put on a pan with water in the bottom (about an inch) shell side touching the water and cover exposed insides of the pumpkin with aluminum foil.
Bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes.
Take out, let cool. Scoop out all the flesh, and put it in your blend with a little water to puree. You can also pour the water that will accumalate in the "bowl" into the blender. 1 sugar pumpkin makes about 4 cups. You can also make pumpkin bread or pumpkin pancakes (see allrecipes.com for those recipes!)

Bunny Rabbit Chased by Monsters

The kids were running from the front yard to the back yard yesterday, and when I followed them for a few minutes I figured out they were pretending to be bunny rabbits chased by monsters. Part of the "game" was also to sneak inside and get cookies to eat outside. I let them continue with said game only because they are extremely healthy cookies. So healthy that I wonder how I've gotten away with getting the kids to actually eat them (mwa ha ha ha ha ha!)

The bunny game was especially funny since our big orange tom cat Nutmeg (or Nutty) was running with them everywhere with his big fluffy tail poofing out behind him. Here's a pic of one of the weird places Nutty was sleeping the other day.
