Captain Justice Joins the Team

I have so much to blog about, but I have no time lately for anything. Here's a quick blog about one of our favorite super heroes, Captain Justice, who Kid Catastrophe and Danger Boy join some days for more crime fighting. Kid Catastrophe and Captain Justice found matching blue and pink capes at our friend Renae's house and had fun saving the world by climbing trees and running around the house ;)

Call Me Sister

Paranoid Dad escaped for his annual trek to GENCON this week. Danger Boy asked "are there beds at gencon?" because he wondered where Dad was sleeping. He told Dad when he got home "and they have beds at gencon!" so funny. Here's a pic of Paranoid Dad taking a nap the day after gencon, and he apparently needed help napping from Clifford. Why do kids like to do stuff to napping parents?

Kid Catastrophe has been telling everyone (shop clerks, bank tellers, etc.) to "call me sister" or "my name is sister". It's hilarious.

Danger Boy had to get his kindergarten physical today and they gave him FIVE SHOTS in his thighs. Danger Boy squirmed and squealed, but he did not cry afterward and the nurse said he was very brave. I would have to agree, and dang! I think I would be crying after five shots!

I gave Danger Boy a haircut for his first day of school, a few hours later I asked him if he had looked in the mirror yet, so he did and s
aid "I look like Ethan!" and then "my hair looks just like Ethan's!" Here's a pic of his new do.

Reading Program Ends, Time for School!!!

Well, the reading program ended the day we got back from Minneapolis, and the kids were so cranky! Vance actually started crying because they were calling people by name to go to the prize room to pick the end of the reading program prizes, and they chose to let the little kids go last! Whatl??? The little kids, who are the most impatient, get to wait the longest? Where's your brain??? QQ was not as aware of what was going on, so she did not whine, but Vance was getting tough to handle. They also had some "grand prizes" where we got to submit the name of one kid per grand prize.

Well, I (Tired Mom) saw this woodland animals sheet and blanket set (for a full size bed, which Vance sleeps on) and I noticed that not a whole lot of people were putting their names in for that prize (because there were bikes an
d big truck and other more exciting things). So, I figure if I put both Vance and QQ's name in for this set that we would have a good chance of winning.

I was right! We won a grand prize! When we were putting our names in for the drawing Vance was acting totally indifferent to whe
re he wanted his name put for the drawing, but when they held up the animal bed set before they drew the name Vance says "I want that!" I was so glad I just went with my gut and put their names in for that. We put the sheets and pillowcases on Vance's bed pretty much the second we got home, and Vance and QQ played with the blanket all morning. It had two pillowcases, two pillow shams, a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and a very nice comforter.

Friday, we registered Vance for Kindergarten! Yay for Vance and becoming one of the "big kids" now. I had to tell QQ the sad news tha
t she was too little to go to school, but she could go to preschool next year when she was bigger. There was a 1 1/2 hour odyssey to fill out all the forms, pay the fees, and get the paperwork all turned in, and then we had another 1 1/2 hours to buy the $50 worth of school supplies needed! Tired Mom was tired indeed at the end of that day!

Marvelous Minneapolis

For the second year in a row, Kid Catastrophe & Danger Boy graced the beautiful city of Minneapolis with their Superness. We always have a great time visiting Aunt Danielle, and Granny came along too to help with the driving (and provide the minivan for the trip).

The first day the Aunt Danielle was at work so the kids ran around the apartment (chasing the kitten belonging to Aunt Danielle's room mate, Jill) until Tired Mom took them to this cool park she remembered that had a nice big wading pool. The kids wore themselves out until it was time for Aunt Danielle to come home from work.
The second day, Aunt Danielle drove us to a huge outlet mall a little ways outside the city. The Super Kids did, well super! There was a promise of a toy involved in the keeping of the kids in line, but we actually had to go to Target to get the toy because the only kind of store this outlet mall did not have was a toy store! Woulda thunk?
Aunt Danielle spoiled QQ by giving her piggy back rides at the outlet mall, and then spoiled both kids by buying them many toys at Target.

We also went to this Alien themed restaurant where the decor was kind of fun, but the food was not so good. Can't aliens learn to cook if they are going to come to Earth?
The next day we went to this wonderful Wildflower Garden/ Bird Sanctuary that had cool plants (which Tired Mom took a million pictures of, but she won't bore you with those here). We also saw lots of new birds, and we had a Birds of North America Field Guide that we had picked up at the local library (at the suggestion of Aunt Liz, thanks Liz!). The field guide let us look up the names of all the birds we saw.

Danger Boy thought the bird field guide was the coolest!

They had this cool building on the trails where the kids could touch all sorts of naturey things they had found all over the sanctuary. The kids really enjoyed actually getting to touch everything. It was pretty cool ;)
Aunt Danielle and the ever patient Andrew (Aunt Danielle's beau) helped out when the kids got too tired to walk. There was also a bog (which is where the kids pooped out and needed to be carried) that we got to explore.

On our last full day we all went to the beach where Tired Mom actually let someone take a picture of her in a swimsuit. Scandalous!
We hope to come back every summer and have as much fun as we have the last two years!
