Nursing at 3am

Nursing at 3am

Chubby baby belly pressed against mine
Cheek to my breast, hand to my chest
There never was, ever was a moment quite this quiet
A darkness so comforting, a fog of bliss whispering
Down my body, and enveloping all around

Like magic pouring over me with love sprinkles
Like beautiful brushstokes touching my skin
There never was, ever was, a tired time that
Wanted to be awake, and wrapped up
In a baby’s arms, so I did not want to sleep

That happiness could not let me rest
That long cherished, tiny moment in the wee hours
There never was, ever was, a softness
That could compare to sweet baby breath
On bare skin, under blankets of mildest summer air

So tired, I cannot open my eyes,
So happy, my body cannot contain it
There never was, ever was, a love like
Chubby baby hands, pulling me close
To heaven’s door, knocking to be let in.

Saying Goodbye to Summer!

Why does Labor Day seem bittersweet sometimes? The last "summer holiday" or just knowing that the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler? We let the kids play with the hose for an hour today, just because it would not be getting warm enough very many more days for them to enjoy this.
Sorsha had fun watching the kids have fun ;) (in other news, this is the best picture of Tired Mom's neck ever taken!).

Isn't this a cute picture of Kid Catstrophe dancing in the sprinkler?
And, being my kids, they had to make some mud!

Kid Catastrophe Preschooling Down While Danger Boy 1st Grades It Up

Kid Catstrophe started preschool two days ago, and already seems to be enjoying it. She's been wanting to join Vance's classes since she was 2, but Tired Mom was not so sure how she would do without Big Brother to help her with her shyness. This year, she made leaps and bounds in outgrowing her shrinking violet tendencies, so preschool seemed like a good choice.

She got to ride a bus for the first time at the preschool orientation, and loved it. She won't ride the bus this year, but she'll get to ride it for field trips. We also have a friend from church in the same class as her, so she already knows someone in the class.

Here she is SUPER EXCITED to be riding on a bus. She loved all the princess pictures above the bus windows (look mama! Ariel! look mama! Sleeping Beauty!)
Danger Boy started 1st grade a few weeks ago, and seems to be getting into it so far. He talks mostly about who he plays with at recess. We had a "Meet the Teacher" night at his school where the whole family got a picnic dinner, and then we met his teacher for the year. She seems like a really nice lady who has been teaching at his school for 25 years.
Here's Danger Boy showing off his tough boy face. Grrrr mommy, put down that camera and face my dinosaur!

Super Spy- and THE THUMB!!

It's official, we have our very first thumb sucker (and fingers too!). Super Spy refuses the binky most days, but makes up for it by soothing herself with her thumb or fingers. The other kids always took a binky. So far, THE THUMB seems better than the binky. When we moved Super Spy from the bassinet to the crib this last week, she started sleeping 8-9 hours at night, all on her own! Paranoid Dad had to sleep train the other two with the binky to get them to do this. I give credit to THE THUMB!
Super Spy is also joining the ranks of Zombie TV Watchers.
With Danger Boy in school, I am digging all my alone time with Kid Catastrophe, and I think she is too!

Pirate Dinosaurs

Tired Mom was reading to the Super Kids as usual before bed time, while Paranoid Dad was off teaching other kids how to kick some bootie at his Kajakenbo class. Tired Mom got to the part where the pirate captain was sobbing about how the dinosaur pirates had stolen his ship, as Paranoid Dad was walking up the stairs. Apparently, Tired Mom was doing such a good job, that Paranoid Dad actually thought she was having an hysterical crying fit! Hilarious.

The book is pretty funny as it features a boy named Flinn, who I think gets his name from the famous swashbuckling pirate actor, Errol Flynn. The book also incorporates two universal boy favorites: PIRATES & DINOSAURS.

In other haps, we had a birthday party as the Super Cousins came to visit us from the East Coast for two weeks. Danger Boy and Kid Catastrophe are showing off their party clothes in the below pic.

The Super Cousins got plenty of good loot (sorry, still in pirate mode here). ARRRGGGGHHH ME HARDIES, THE PLUNDER IS GOOD! (can't stop apparently).
Cousin T seen here licking the icing off his cake figure.
AND......last but not least we have a new SUPER CAT. We have named him Stoic for his calm acceptance of all Super Kid pesterings. He also hides really well, which I'm sure helps also.

My Kids Are Super Cute- More Updates Later!

We have been super busy the last few weeks, so more updates later. But, for those Super Fans who cannot get enough of cute pics of my kids, here's your fix for awhile!!!

Super Spy gets cuter by the second!
She's still easy going, and sweet as candy!
And did I mention the CUTE????
The older kids are so cute when they play together. I hope Danger Boy and Kid Catastrophe stay best friends forever!

Scare Up a Good Book!

The theme for the library reading program this summer was, you guessed it, "Scare Up a Good Book!" The button was one of the attendance prizes we got for showing up for the bi-weekly shows and crafts at the library. The library has been decorated all summer with fun and scary decorations to go with the theme.

We had so much fun watching a Mad Scientist, a Crazy Reptile Guy (who brought in an Anaconda and a live Alligator!), and doing super scary crafts. The kids also got stickers and free kids meals to Red Robin as they completed a certain number of books.
Today was the BIG FINALE! (Although the zoo will be bringing some animals next week because it was too hot to bring the animals when they were scheduled for their show)
The kids each got to pick out a cool prize for completing the required reading for their age group (Kid Catastrophe got her prize for books read to her, Danger Boy did actual reading for his prize). Below are some pics of some of the fun things kids got to choose from. There was a whole big room full of choices!
There was also some "extra" prizes kids could win by putting their names in for drawings. Kid Catastrophe won this book in one of the drawings. It's a cute "girl book" as Kid Catastrophe called it. At the end of the prize picking, and the prize winning, a PIZZA PARTY! Super Silly willy fun fun. This was our third year and we hope they have the program every year from now on!!!

(You can tell Super Spy was enthralled with the whole thing!)
